Seaford ladies suffered defeat on what was a historic day for the club, Seaford ladies have been meeting since 2013 and then started playing Friendlies in 2014, Seaford ladies have grown gradually and are sponsored by the White Lion Pub in Seaford. So to go from meeting casually in 2013 to being a league team in 3 years is a fantastic achievement and one the whole club should be proud off.
The game V Portsmouth Valkyries Ladies was a tough test as Portsmouth have been flying this season and are top of the league, Seaford got off to a fantastic start with a try from Jema Marcroft touching over and Alex Collins converting the try. Portsmouth with their powerful backs pushed Seaford back over there 5-meter line with their number 9 scoring under the posts and converting to make it 7-7, Portsmouth then touched over just before HT to go in 7-12 ahead. With the second half getting underway Portsmouth continued to pile on the pressure and scored another 2 tries, after this Seaford where hit by a mini injury crisis that left the team playing with 12, and while they defended solidly Portsmouth continuous attacks were just too much and they run out 50-7 winners. Portsmouth showed that they are going to be hard to beat this season, but Seaford showed great spirit and determination and will be no walk overs.
So while the defeat was not one Seaford had hoped for it was still a very special day for the club, Seaford ladies are always looking for players, and are looking for players of any standard, so If you have not played before and fancy getting fit and joining a team of girls who not only play rugby but also enjoy social events together then why not come to training on a Wednesday night from 7pm.
