Seaford charity fundraiser for Sonya

Seaford RFC will be hosting a charity fundraiser on the 15th April from 12pm for st wilfrid's hospice in honour of one of our ladies players Sonya Da Silva. Sonya has been a huge part of the rugby club in recent years and played a huge part in getting Seaford ladies to where they are today playing league rugby, she is called Nanna for a reason and that is as she takes everyone under her wing and guides them through, she has set up big rugby days and coached, while also played for other club in the Sussex area such as Lewes.

Sonya fell ill in December 2016 thinking she had a reaction to a current medical condition only to be hit with the tragic news that she has terminal cancer. Sonya has spent some time at St Wilfreds:

“Recently I've spent some respite time at st wilfrid's hospice so they could monitor my medication and find the balance of pain control. At first I admit I was apprehensive about going but I had such a positive experience staying there. The staff were empathetic, supportive, genuinely caring and over all kind, friendly people. Spending time there has helped me so much in so many different ways and I am very grateful they are able to provide this service for people in my condition. “

Seaford RFC would like to help Sonya in raising as much money for st wilfrid's hospice as possible, they have helped her and are helping so many others going through an extremely traumatic time.

The day will be one of fun with clubs from across the county bringing teams along for mini matches, while having cake stalls, some touch rugby, raffles, food, music and most of all fun.

Ian Newby ladies manager “Sonya nick name Nana. Is one of the greatest ladies player I have had the privilege to coach, she is so dedicated to Seaford Ladies. Where a position needed filling anywhere on the pitch Nana was the first to volunteer she has been a inspiration to all the other players, Nana is a great ambassador for ladies rugby on and off the pitch. On behalf of everyone associated with Seaford RFC thank you for your help and commitment to our club”.
